Kindness in Islam: "Allah Is Gentle and Loves Gentleness" article cover

Gentleness (rifq) is not weakness. It is a quality Allah loves, and the Prophet ﷺ showed it with children, students and even those who wronged him.

Gentleness in the home

Speak softly, correct privately and praise often. Children respond to warmth far more than to harshness.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ فِي الأَمْرِ كُلِّهِ

“Allah is gentle and loves gentleness in all matters.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 6927, Sahih Muslim 2165

Gentleness in teaching

This is why our teachers correct mistakes patiently, especially with beginners and children:

  • Correct one mistake at a time
  • Celebrate every small step
  • Keep lessons short and positive
